京都ジュニア予選③ Kyoto Junior Qualifying Round Day 3

今日は１８歳以下シングルスの予選の残りと、１６歳以下のシングルスとダブルスの予選が行われた。１８歳以下シングルスには高校テニス部員が２名（志水、田中浩）が出場し志水が予選を突破した。１６歳以下のシングルス、ダブルスには中学生部員が出場した。昨日の雨の影響ですべての試合をこなすことはできなかったが、ほとんどの選手が敗退した。中学からテニスを始めた選手がほとんどの中学テニス部員はまだ試合経験も浅いこともあり練習の力が出せていない部分もあるが、それ以上に技術的、体力的な差を感じる試合が多かった。まだまだ基本的なスキルが見に付いていない選手が多いので、トレーニングを含めて基本練習に時間を多く費やしていきたい。その中でも人生初の勝利を収めた選手もおり、自信となる部分もあった。明日は昨日の雨で延期になった１８歳以下のダブルスの予選が行われる。

The remaining qualifying matches of the boys' 18 or under singles category were played today.  Two high school boys played and one of them made it through the qualifying round. 

The qualifying rounds of the 16 or under singles and doubles also took place.  Because of the rain delay from yesterday, not all the qualifying matches were completed, but most of the junior hig boys who participated lost today.  In many of the matches, they were outplayed by their opponents.  Most of the junior high memebers started playing tennis in junior high school, so they need to improve their skills to compete with those who started tennis much earlier.  Their lack of athletic abilities was also shown in those matches.  They need to spend more time working on the area as well.  On the other hand, there were some boys who scored their first victory in their life.  Their hard work paid off and it gave them some confidence.  

P.S. アメリカのフロリダ州マイアミで行われているソニーオープンで錦織圭選手が準々決勝でロジャー・フェデラー選手を破りました。準決勝では世界２位のノバク・ジョコビッチ選手と対戦します。ますますの活躍が期待されます。

Kei Nishikori beat the world's No. 5 Roger Federer in the QFs of Sony Open in Miami, FL.  Congratulations, Kei!  This is the second time for Nishikori to reach the SFs of a Masters tournament.   He faces Novak Djokovic, No. 2 in the world, in the SFs.  Let's hope he will please us with another great win!
