狭山高校と練習試合 Practice Matches

午後から大阪・狭山高等学校テニス部をお招きして練習試合を行った。狭山高校とは今年度のチームになってからもう４回目の練習試合である。前回の鈴鹿高校同様、長年にわたってお世話になっているチームである。今回もほとんどの試合が接戦となり、来週からの試合に向けてよい実戦経験を積むことができた。全体としての課題は接戦をものにできない試合が多かったことである。力の差がない相手と試合をする際の大事な鍵は重要なポイントをいかにプレーするかである。よいプレーも随所に見られたが、競った場面でのダブルフォールトやストロークエラーなど単純なミスが目立った。練習の中から試合を意識し、無駄なミスを減らしていく努力が必要である。前回の鈴鹿高校との練習試合から中学生も数名試合をさせていただいているが、今回も高校生相手に数試合させていただいた。中学生にとっては試合をする経験が限られているので、このような機会を有効に生かしてほしい。明日は天気が悪くなければ、中学生にとって初のランキング戦を実施する予定である。試合経験の少ない生徒がほとんどの中、中学生にとっては貴重な経験となるので全力を尽くしてほしい。

We had Sayama High School over for practice matches today. This was the fourth time we had practice matches with this school in a year. We have been maintaining good relationships with the school for years. Most of the matches today were very competitive. Given that we are just a few days a way from a big tournament, playing those tough and close matches were a very good experience for the boys. There were still many close matches they could have won. Only a few points here and there determined the outcomes of those matches. In many of the lost matches, the boys made careless errors such as doublt faults and stroke unforced errors on imporpant points, which proved to be costly in the end. When you take on someone who is at the same level as you, what matters is whether you win the key points or not. The boys need to try to practice as if they were playing matches in order to cut down on unncessary mistakes on big points. A few junior high boys also played matches. It is a good opportunity for the junir high boys to join practice matches of the high school team as they have a very few chances to play matches. Tomorrow, though rain is expected, if the weather holds, the junior high boys are going to play ranking matches with each other. I hope they will take advantage of the opportunity to gain match experience.
