敦賀気比高校と練習試合 Practice Matches

風もない穏やかな晴天の中、福井県から敦賀気比高校テニス部に来ていただき練習試合を行った。敦賀気比高校には昨年度末にも来ていただいた。１年生中心のチームではあるが、能力の高い選手ばかりで、来年度が楽しみなチームである。ほとんどの試合で圧倒された前回の練習試合と比べると、接戦が多くなり大きな進歩が見られた。特に防戦一方であった前回と比べると、自分から仕掛けてポイントととるという場面が多く見られた。接戦まで持ち込んでも勝ちきれない試合が多かったものの、日々の練習の成果が強く感じられる練習試合となった。まだ細かいミスが多く、攻めているのに最後の一本が決められない場面もまだ多々あり、今後は浅いボールの処理、ボレー、スマッシュなど細かいショットの質を上げていくことが課題である。また、全体的に成果は出ているものの、まだ同じ課題に跳ね返されている選手も多くいる。自分の課題に対してまっすぐに向かい合い、日々の練習を大切にして、早く克服してほしい。

It was a sunny and comfortable day.  We had Tsuruga Kehi High School over and had practice matches.  It was the second time we had practice matches with this school in four months.  The team is mostly first-year boys, but they all have very good skills and are capable of playing very good tennis.  Compared to tha last time, when we had lost most of the matches one-sidedly,  there were many competitive matches today.  It was clear that the boys had made great progress since then.  Although they still lost many of the close matches, there were many points where they controlled the rallies and hit winners.    There were still many points they couldn't finish off, though.   It shows they need to work on more delicate shots such as vollies and smashes.   Many of the boys showed a lot of improvement in today's matches, while there are still many who are unable to overcome the same problem they have been faced with for a long time.  I hope they will find a way to put an end to their struggle soon.
